When you have flash floods, or heavy rain after a dry spell, most of it just runs off into the rivers and out to sea, it doesn't do much to raise the water table.
To prevent drought, you need long periods of drizzly rain which slowly soaks into the ground.
Actually, hope it does rain here, |

It's been so hot in the coop (27 degrees) that we've been running a fan in there overnight.
The poor chooks are so hot they've been panting & holding their wings away from their bodies a little, just to get some air flowing around them!
It's very tempting to leave the pophole open to help, but not worth the risk of a fox finding out! |

Same here,
though, think most foxes are probably hiding out in their dens if they've got an sense |

bring it on ,bucketfuls would be nice have to confess we had all of 5minutes downpour and now it's just pitter patter, hopin we're goin to get a good thunderstorm later to clear the air can't take many more of these hot nights oh no here comes the sun and the rain is warm....girls went out on the razzle last niteguess who forgot to put the bolt on the run? Luckily they all appeared at the back door this morning followed by both my cats, I was so relieved I treated them to some muesliand yoghurt for breakfast and they have now met our Saint Bernard who thought she was getting breakfast, everybody was calm and orderly no probs she herded them back to the run it was luverly to see. |

| is that it?! we've had warnings of flash floods, 4 inches of rain in three hours, hail, all in all, panic, panic, panic, sand bags being ferried here there and everywhere. It bucketed down till about 11.30, rained until about 1, and its been dry ever since. Now it's even more humid than ever! What a let down! (hope i'm not speaking too soon) |

I leave the pop hole open every night, the coop is inside a fixed run. I hardly ever close it, except when the temp is likely to drop below freezing. I have notice some of the birds not bothering to go in, and roosting on the branches outside.
I hope they're secure, I guess I'll only ever find out when I have a fox problem, which so far I haven't |

| Does light deter foxes? We have six solar lights scattered around the garden they come on about 9.30pm and are on all night three of them are close to the run and like you Nannyp we don't close the pophole because they are usually secure inside the run. |

Not in the least, I have a 500 watt halogen security light and it doesn't bother them at all,
