I thought TB in cows was treatable? (like with the bull, Shambo, that was in the news before)
or is it just that it will spread to the others and make them unsuitable for producing meat/dairy? |

all cattle with tb are put down ,incuding Shambo
it can be passed to people though cattle
here because of the low risk we have 4 year testing cattle must be tested
i think it's 60 days before moving to new holding ,am i right on that jan
that came in a little while ago , |

We're on 4 yearly testing here too and I think you need to do a pre-movement test within 60 days of moving the animal to either its new place or a show/sale etc on all cattle aged 42 days or older. Hope that helps |

Thanks Milkmaid
I did think about Gandulf or Gandee but i think that Percy is a nice name for a bull calf.
Can anyone think of more names that they would call a bull calf. |

nonie calls them her cows it's the farm she works at
archi is a limosine
most of the cows are friesian /holston ,
her favorite bull was killed by lightening last year ,
number 14 was my favorite cow she was a friesian and a real sweety but she was really old more grey than black and white and the farm pet ,but got really poorly last year so they had to part with her , |

We bought some calf starter pellets the other day so when Hazel goes we'll put the calf on them. |

We had a cow hit by lightening once. Me and OH were walking the fields one evening when OH pointed to one of the cows and said she was his favourite of them all. Next morning she was dead from lightening strike
So , the moral of this story is, never pick one out as your favourite as it looks like a sure thing they will be struck by lightening
Sorry, know its not funny really |

| Wasnt she the one that chased us all (with me carrying the dog!) across the field that same night? The moral of the story should be that cows should never do too much running on the night of a storm! |
