This is really a reply to an old message "re big bum"
I had a chicken that had this problem. She looked as if she should have been packing a couple of 6 shooters. ie walked like a cowboy .
Eventually she could not walk and I decided to do an exam post death. she appeared to have some sort of gross growth within the reproductive area.
Has any one had this happen?

Hi Chris,
I had something simillar very recently. Had the vet to the post mortem. My chicken had a large tumour in her digestive system...
I guess chickens can get tumours just as much as any other sort of animal

| I actually think i might have one who's going that way.. Since Christmas I first noticed her tail feathers seem to hang at a different angle, then she molted, and revealed a VERY red rear, vet said its probably became inflamed beacause of the molt, and that she was bald. He also said her vent had thickening of the walls but was otherwise ok.But despite being quite a light weight she walks like she has lead weights attached.. And more recently shes being laying almost rounded eggs, that alone will probably make her egg bound eventually. So don't really know what to do, Shes happy and content in every way, but I dont think she will be here this time next year... I think interfering with her is possibly pointless and unkind. but one day at a time... |

Sorry to hear that Bhindi.
I hope she gets better & your fears are proved wrong.
As you say she's still happy, eating & drinking OK, I think you are probably right to leave her alone at this point. |

| Sorry to hear about your hen Bhindi. As long as she appears otherwise happy and healthy, as you say, its a case of enjoying one day at a time... |
