Look what Mr Noo and I did last week
12ft x 12ft and 6ft high (which is the best bit, cos I can clean up without breaking my back!)
The hens are so much happier, they are a fair bit quieter, and have a lot of fund mooching around. There are areas of sun and shade, and they've delighted in digging the deepest dust bath, which Molly can often be found asleep in! So now room for a couple more!!! (I'd like 5 in all)
I'd love a "mixed" box of egg colours..... so does anyone have any suggestions? The Welsummers are a bossy pair so it may need something with a bit of personality! Mr Noo fancies an Orpington - but I gather these are "huge". I'm not fussed (although sorry Fenn I do want them with feathered necks!!) but would like a white egg layer in there. I think I'll have to get POL's or thereabouts, because although I really love the idea of hatching my own, I'm not quite sure how the logistics of that would work with a spaniel in the house - and me at work a couple of hours every morning - visions of coming home to a face full of feathers! Must add that we're not quite ready to take any yet as we need to build a new house for the quarantine area first! |

Oh lovely, and how exciting!
I'm in the process of adding to my flock to make 5 too, also for mixed egg colours personally I like blue or green eggs, they're popular with kids and very pretty. I have a couple of 'cream legbar' mongrels who lay pretty blue eggs and everyone loves them. |

I had Orps Noo, and they were bantams...so lovely fluffy bottoms and not huge.
They laid pale, flesh coloured eggs.
You're already getting nice dark eggs from your wellies, so it seems you may have to look for CLB's or talk to JD about Shetlands. |

Wonderful new area for your girls Noo. Well done!
Have fun choosing new breeds. You could take a trip to Poultry Park where Chris has a lovely selection. I'm sure he does Cream Legbars too (blue egg layer) but they're not on his website.

And of course the obligatory pics when you get them! |

It's just over 100 miles from here.
We usually go on the M4 to Swindon, then via Cheltenham to Gloucester on the A roads.
It's quite a nice drive & not usually too busy (she says with fingers crossed! )
Alternatively you could go on the M4 & across the Severn Bridge & up that way. Then you could also visit Henwife on the way or way back! |
