Over the last week or so, though I can't remember where, there was something I read about dehorning bucks also removes the musk glands that makes them smell bad. Anyone here have any experience of that? I'm just wondering for any kids we have next year, in case we decide to keep one.
Oh, I've accidentally booked an animal box from our local petrol station for Tuesday to accidentally take to Landskrona with us. Not sure how that's going to work...
I may claim Daniel (a friend of ours in the village) has asked us to return it to the hire station in Landskrona for him as we were going that way. Do you think Nigel'll buy that? |

| Probably to keep the flock going, if it really does work as a way to stop the smell. |

ok not a wether then
a buck tends to have a life of about 4 years before they have covered anything they can get their hooves on ,if you can get away with it ,don't keep a duck they are strong they get frustrated ,got bruises to prove it ,they also pee on their beards that tends to be some of the smell
otherwise not something i've ever done so don't have a clue
although hang on i'll get my goat book
ok it says in there that it doesn't effect fertility ,which must mean nannys still find them |

| Have just got from the vet a product which if rubbed on the young goat's head - where the horns would normally come through and apparently this burns (if burns is the right word) the horn buds and prevents them growing. I have just used it on a youngster and will see what happens. You need to be able to feel the horn just developing beneath the skin - our little one was about 8 weeks when we used it. I presume it is some sort of acid (looks like a lipstick container) and you must be careful not to get it on your hands or anywhere other than the goat's head. Sounds pretty drastic, I know, but better than a goat with horns if it turns out to be unfriendly. Will post the name of this product later - as its in the medical box in the barn at the moment and I'm supposed to be getting lunch ready - not 'playing' on the forum. OH doesn't realise how much time I spend on here!! Jan (OH Richard aka tuzo2k) |

| Thanks for that, I'd be very interested. I'm wondering if it's based on phenol, the same stuff they use on ingrowing toenails to stop the nailbed growing a new nail? |

Not sure how that's going to work... | I've had to accidentally unbook it and re-accidentally book it for Thursday, then change it again to Wednesday when the plans all changed again, all without Nigel knowing! Aaargh!
Anyway, I think we're ready. I've got the food secreted away, I've got the paddock re-fenced to stop "Lennards dogs wandering in again", and got the other non-critical bits and bobs about to be delivered by Ascott .
The postage to Sweden wasn't much higher than within the UK, and with only 17.5% VAT instead of 25% it's worked out about the same cost overall as in Sweden, but easier to find! |

You must try & get a picture of Nigel's face when he realises what's going on!
Good luck for Wednesday! |
