very sad day ~ lost my little cold yellow chick today. She was out with buttercup, under her feet whilst she was scratching around. I went back inside and when I came out again mum was there but no sign of baby ~ then saw others playing tug of war with her. I am so cross with myself for not taking better care of her and also upset ~ she was lovely and friendly considering she was with a broody. I'd decided to handle them both each day and she would just sit to be stroked and her little wing feathes were coming as well.
I don't suppose anyone lives near me and has a little day old yellow chick day looking for a home? I don't want the araucana to be lonely when she grows up. I guess I'll just have to wait till she's a bit older and then try to introduce her to the other 3.
such a sad day |

ideally knobby, I'd like something different than I have ~ I don't have 2 the same at present. I know I have 8 pekins but they're all different colours ~ might even be different sexes if I ever work out what the babies are! But it needs to be a yellow chick (that's what my grandchildren are expecting to see next week). The one I lost was a black tailed white jap, she was just getting her white wing feathers.
I just spoke with one of my daughters and she said it might be better to wait until 6-8 weeks and buy in a 6-8 week pullet to keep the araucana company. I don't think I'd get away with introducing a chick much after tomorrow night and I can't travel far.
But thanks for the offer knobby, it was very kind of you |

The people at Bell Plantation in Towcester have POL hens but the owner breeds some of them himself and may have babies at the moment.
Also try the Bedfordshire Farm, Woodside, they also have young ones.
let me know if you need the numbers.

| thanks for your kind words everyone. Aussie Chick I went to Woodside yesterday afternoon ~ lt sussex type they said and slightly larger than bantam, so I went to have a look ~ they were a week old like my new ones but they were about 3 or 4 times the size ~ large fowl I thought so I left it. I think Towcester may be a little too far for me to travel, thanks any way |
