Remember the poor duck?

Now I have a 3 year old hen with the same thing going on. Perfectly fine and alert, no other symptoms....just can't stand up and walk. Shocked

I need help. My vet is going to charge me $200.00 to walk in the door and be even more lost and confused than me at this point....that is sad. I have to go in armed with what I think it is. Then she will have to research it for herself, run a ton of tests and order in medications. Last time I tried this, it took her 2 weeks to get the meds in...by that time all that were going to die had died. Lost about 30 birds that go around.

Any ideas at all??????????

Thanks in advance.....
Deb

I'm so sorry, Deb, I can offer no advice only support. I have no idea at all and I know you will have done the one thing I can think of and that is to isolate her from the others, just in case....
I hope someone can come up with something soon for you

I'll do some more reading up about Spondylolisthesis.

From reading those descriptions.... the Spondylolisthesis (thank goodness for cut and paste so I didn't have to spell that!) is also know as kinky back, so is if fair to assume that you would expect to see a kinky back as a symptom too? Any sign of that in either bird?

It does seem quite unusual that you've only got paralysis as a symptom. When I've googled it most of the obvious diseases that come back also have other symptoms too.

Did you do a postmortem on the duck, or get one done?

Sorry I don't know what else to say...

Other than of course to wish you the very best of luck in getting it sorted.

Thinking of you at such a worrying time.
Hugs,
Lis

I wish I had some useful tips and advice Deb, and I don't. It sounds quite odd that both duck and hen are suffering from the same symptom which to me would suggest an infection which is transferable between both birds. It would be a fluke for them to both be born with the same thing wrong. Apart from that, I have only support to offer and hope that whatever is wrong resolves itself or that you get the right information for your vet Confused Sad

Or it could be (bit of a long shot, I know) something that effects them both environmentally eg some sort of poison such as from a plant maybe. But again I would have thought that there would be other symptoms too for that (sickness, runny poo etc)

Maybe that's one of those things to check for and rule out...

Hi...I am awake, but technically not functionable, so forgive any spelling errors.

Duck had normal poo and was a couple months old. Hen is 3 years old and haven't had a chance to check the poo, as she is seperated out into our dog, pet transporter and is on my back porch.

Will check tonight when I clean out the transporter. I don't want to disturb or stress more than what is necessary. Confused

I met up with Rachel on msn...she got Terry Beebe on the phone for me.

I can't begin to describe how wretchedly depressed I feel right now. Went through this routine over a year ago....I can't do it again.
