I decided to candle the little Dutch bantam eggs under one of my broodies - transferring them by eggbox (safest procedure or so I thought Wink On putting them back under the broody, I dropped an egg and it hit another egg in the eggbox Shocked Oh dear, it has really smashed the shell in two places - on looking at it, the membrane is not broken, so have placed the egg in my incubator - they are due to hatch on Wednesday Very Happy Just keeping everything crossed that the chick hatches Wink I have had a good listen and cant hear any cheeping at all Sad

I have been really good and not annoyed the broody by keep looking at the eggs, then go and do this, Evil or Very Mad

Oh, dear Sally! Bad luck or what! Sad

Did you get to candle it? Does it look good?

I know others have used various things to seal cracks in hatching eggs. Don't know what would be best though as it's so close to hatching time.

Can't offer any advice really. Good luck! Smile

I remember Mojo recommending tape.
Is it too late at this stage?
Good luck!

Oh dear Sally, I'm sure we'll all manage at one point or another to do that, however careful Confused I would imagine that putting some nail varnish over the crack may help, depending on where it is, but as they are due to hatch on Weds, it may be a little late.
Fingers and toes crossed for you

Nannyp about the nailvarnish, I just wondered if the smell would be toxic and penetrate thro to little one? could you use a thin masking tape maybe?

Yep, I have used nail varnish on cracks and the chick has hatched

Anyway, THE CHICK IS ALIVE, (sorry for shouting), I have candled the egg tonight and can see it wriggling, its beak is in the airspace, so hopefully it should have pipped by morning :D
I picked up the egg to candle it and a bit more shell broke off,
