I have been watching a friend knit socks in her spare moments and decided it was something I could do too! I have knitted 3 pairs so far, the first, the greeny pair was made with 2 strands of Shetland wool, the second reddish pair was made with 2 strands of Shetland wool and one of DK acrylic variegated and the 3rd blue pair 1 of Shetland wool and one of DK variegated. These are cosy socks!

This pair is for my nephew - made to measure!

its just single crochet, ( it makes a less wholey fabric) but you can use any stitch you like! Laughing

I love those socks plumpbird (Jaydee's are pretty cool too) - would you be so kind as to email me the pattern? If it's not too much trouble. OH has stolen my slipper socks and I would love to make a new pair. Others on the forum might like it so feel free to put it here on Crafters corner instead.

I love the crochet ones. I've made loads of socks and just love 'em! - Can't wear anything else now!

Don't forget to all you UK crocheters that US crochet terms are one behind us. i.e a US single crochet is what a UK person calls double, and a US double is a UK treble!!!! there are websites with comparisons on...(eg here http://www.yarnforward.com/crochet.html ).. although if you learnt from "the Happy Hooker" you'll never know any different!

SIGH Sad

I do so wish I had paid attention when my dear old granny tried to teach me to knit. I though it was a load of old rubbish when I was a pullet but I'd give anything for her talents now she's gone and I am grown up and sock-less and have to check the recipe everytime I need to bake a cake Embarassed Who will knit me some socks!

The same girl who showed me how to spin has now also shown me how to knit sockses! I was amazed how quickly they can be knit, once I got over the awkwardness of handling the 5 needles. Made from the wool she spun and dyed... very cosy, even when wet - great for the ole wellies.
